This work was painted from a photograph, taken from a copy of, ‘World of Interiors’ circa 1997.
I changed the composition and palette slightly, by enhancing the yellow/green hues and leaving the table unadorned.
I like the idea of an empty room, upon which, you the viewer, can place your own narrative.
This painting was completed in the summer of 2020.
The composition was influenced by how I felt at that particular time - claustrophobic and discombobulated.
This work is based on a photograph I took looking through a mirror in my sitting room, with a view into my dining room.
My home, a 400 year old Cotswolds cottage, is idiosyncratic - it has wonky walls, protruding beams and is furnished in an eclectic style..
The blue palette and the composition, enclosed by the partially concealed stairs, convey a sense of claustrophobia and a sense of mystery.
This painting is a work which celebrates books.
As you enter the work you are greeted by a pile of books placed on the floor in the foreground, which leads you to the focal point of the composition, the library.
This work was a delight to paint.
As I applied paint to canvas, I was transported to the Mediterranean - colour, sun, light.
I wanted to capture the peaceful, reflective, and meditative feelings evoked by this scene.
I hope I have done so, and that the painting evokes these feelings in you too.
