This work is a painting of an illuminated statue in Castle Combe Manor gardens. Day was gently turning into night - hence the title gloaming - as I took a photograph of this image.

Chardin was a 17th century still life artist, who through his use of composition and palette elevated the most mundane objects in his works. Chardin’s still life works are an inspiration for my art practice.

This is one of my favourite works by the 17th century French painter, Chardin.

I painted this work from a photograph of the original Chardin. I tried to be as true as possible to the original - both in the use of colour and composition.

I chose this title because the green bottle, in my view, is integral to the flow of the composition and the balance of colour.

This is another still life work, inspired by Chardin.

I chose a strong complimentary colour palette - red and green - for this work, balanced by the neutral white of the glass bottle.

The shoes in this painting have a sad history.

I bought the shoes to wear to a special wedding. After testing them out for a couple of hours, I soon realised that I couldn’t wear them for a full day. Hence the title.

I still have the shoes - the marriage took place in 2011 - neatly stacked away in their original box. Sadly, the couple, whose wedding I attended, ended up divorcing.
