West African Terracotta Figure
This work is inspired by my interest in African art and artefacts.
The Terracotta figure is attributed to the Mali empire, West Africa.
There were two major styles of Terracotta figures: Djenne and Bankoni. This figure is made in the Djenne style: with rounded features and facial scarifications. It dates from the 12th to 15th century.
The work was completed from a photograph. I used the deep red background to emulate the colour and texture of terracotta.
